This weeks favorite finds under $100! Regardless of the current situation, Summer is still on its way and I cannot wait for warmer days, sunshine and hopefully (fingers crossed) a lot of weekends spent at the beach. The below items are definitely putting me in a sunny state of mind and all under $100!
Fun fact about me, I used to buy dresses for Anthropologie. Though I no longer work for the company, I am still in the industry and have now moved onto to Active wear, which is fun, but dresses will always be where my heart is. My favorite quality about a dress is how you can be in the laziest mood, and it’s easier to throw on a dress than put on sweat pants and tee! Seeing as a dress is a complete outfit, it’s technically easier to a dress on rather than lounge wear. Feeling bloated, throw on a flowy dress, going on a date? Maybe something a little more flirty then! Regardless of the occasion, there is a dress for it. Since working for Anthro I have curated a rather large selection of dresses, large enough I have a separate rolling rack that sits in our guest room. I love a good dress and even on this gloomy, gray day I am dreaming of all the spring/summer day dresses I want, no need, to add to my collection.
This is my third week of WFH and I’ll be honest, I’m feeling much differently towards it than I was last week. Last week I was loving sleeping in, going for long walks and online shopping. I was emailing co-workers joking how we couldn’t imagine going back to the old grind, waking up early traveling a couple days a week, being stuck at our desks. Then this morning it felt like it all hit me at once. Both my BF and myself had those dreaded company calls this afternoon, you know, the ones with the word “furlough” in them. I had no idea what that word even meant a week ago. Thankfully we both still have our jobs and work for companies that are avoiding this, but it put a lot into perspective. I know we all cope with situations like this differently but I am adding below all ways that have helped me keep my zen and also put a smile on my face.
I know changing your whole life around for the better is not a necessity during this time of crisis, but this product definitely makes me feel better about myself after I use it. I can truly see a difference that this facial makes. To be perfectly honest, I love every product on this line and highly recommend.
Continuing with my favorite beauty products is the above, Olaplex No. 3. This is a leave in hair mask that requires a minimum of 10 minutes, left in hair from root to ends, however since it’s just me and the BF and no one is using their cameras during WebEx meetings, I’ve been leaving this baby in all day. My hair is shinier and thicker from the whole line of Olaplex products. Thank you Erin my hairstylist for introducing me to this brand ❤ Another great substitute though is coconut oil!
I don’t know about you, but nothing feels better than having your hair out of your face, especially now when I don’t have to get ready each morning, these scrunchies have become my best friend.
Having a pretty notebook makes any workday better and since I am still working the majority of the day, I figured I’d share my favorite. Appointed Notebooks are made in Washington D.C. and come in the prettiest linen covers. You can choose between gridded, lined and blank pages and the best part is that you can add a monogram to each cover. I have now gone through 5 and will never buy a different notebook ever again.
This morning we were supposed to head down to Charleston for a very long weekend. Instead of dreading our 6 am flight instead we had to cancel it, cancel reservations, cancel time off and come to terms that it was not happening (I’m still not over it, its 80 degrees there!). Of course I’m not the only one suffering, I have so many friends cancelling big trips, postponing big plans (weddings!) and putting a pause on life as we know it. To be honest I am really beginning to love WFH, I’m sleeping in, going on long walks outside, catching up on all the HGTV I never get to watch, but alas I am not in Charleston. So, instead of posting this post next week with all my own personal pics, Ill instead show all the wonderful things we were going to do, bf’s Rugby C of C alumni game not included.
Camellias Champagne and Tea room in the new Hotel Bennett in Marion Square was of course top of my list of to-dos. From the stunning chandelier to the uber, femme atmosphere I could not wait to sip some champs while soaking this room in, and taking lots of pictures.
I love the show “Chef’s Table”, I find it a relaxing way to zone out after a long day of work. One of the very first episodes I ever watched followed the story of Husk creator Sean Brock. I fell in love with his love of southern food, how he brought back beans and seeds local to the south and created an amazing farm to table establishment where everything is from the south, no exception. Anyway, supposed to be eating here tomorrow night but we will save it for another time!
And we planned to round it out at Leons Oyster Shop for some southern fried chicken, oysters and beer.
And we would top it all off with some ice cream at Jeni’s……multiple times
Middleton Place
We planned on renting a car, specifically so we could drive out and visit a couple plantations. I was so excited to get back to Middleton Plantation as I haven’t been since I was 11. Additionally this would have been such a pretty time to go with all the azealas and camillias in bloom.
Our next visit would have been to Drayton Hall. Though the house is empty I find the house so beautifully haunting and was excited to explore the property and tour the inside.
Of course the rest of our trip would be left to exploring the city, seeing the College of Charleston and lots of Rugby Alumni events but alas, not this week. So with that I will leave you with some of my favorite images from the charming Holy City from the pinterest board I created specifically for this trip.
As I have gotten older I have realized that yes, I have fully become my Mother. I have become so much like her that even how I decorate is pretty much the same way she decorates. We both love classic design, antiques, and 18th century, however I am also loving the new GrandMillenial spin inspired by one of my favorite interior designers, Ariel Okin. Give me blue and white ginger jars, slipper chairs, florals, florals, florals, needlepoint and chintz! I could scroll through instagram and pinterest all day every day oohing and ahhing over living rooms, bedrooms and outdoor spaces. However Since the vast majority of us are currently working from our home offices, living rooms and kitchens why not get a little uplifting cheer from all the beautiful home office spaces below! Biggest take away from the below, we all need fresh flowers!
Happy Weekend All! In case you needed a reminder today is Saturday and if you’re anything like me the past week has just blended together in a weird blur. On the bright side Spring has officially graced us with her presence and I hope you all were able to soak it all up during yesterday’s gorgeous day! I personally love to shop in person. I love the experience being in a store gives you, and since it seems we won’t have that joy any time soon, working from home has allowed to me do a lot more online shopping! A bonus of this virus is that every website and store is offering major discounts which is putting a bit of a dent in my wallet, but this is the perfect excuse to buy that seasonal decor no one wants to pay full price for! Scroll below for all my favorites!
Williams Sonoma has always had the cutest Easter/Spring decor, and this season they did not disappoint! I could have included the whole website but narrowed down to my favorites below! Bonus, the majority of the site is currently 20% – 40% off!!
The perfect bowl for jelly beans or chocolate eggs
You know you’ve officially grown up when you need this embroidered bunny dish towel to hang on your stove
Perfect pastel candle color palette
You can always count on target (except for toilet paper these days) for the trip that you only wanted deoderant, coffee and trash bags but walked out with about $500 worth of everything else. If you’re planning one of those trips (again, hello toilet paper) make sure you add all the below to add some sunshine to your cart and home.
J.Crew, I love hate relationship for myself. \ It’s not that I don’t like their assortment, there are plenty of times that I’ll shop their women’s section online or in the store, I just never find anything I truly love. Most of my past purchases have been in their Men’s section for my boyfriend, G, as I want him head to toe Crew, whether he likes it or not (editors note, he likes it, (also, I’m the editor)). Most of my everyday basics come from their sister, (cousin?) store Madewell, as I find their jeans, tees and overall aesthetic more my style. However, while scrolling through instagram the other day an add filled with gingham and color caught my eye. Now, I wasn’t surprised when I realized it was J.Crew, as those seem to be staples of the brand, but what I was surprised at was that I wanted to load my cart with tons of cute styles that I loved! If you’re also looking for some colorful, preppy Summer staples to layer into your wardrobe scroll below!
This oversized pink gingham also comes with a matching skirt for the cutest set, but I would prefer this solo with an easy pair of jeans and slide! ruffle wrap top in gingham
Coral red is one of the most flattering colors for everyone, and a particular favorite of mine. I love this easy flowy maxi for both day and night. tiered ruffle maxi beach dress
I never knew I needed a green, gingham one piece with eyelet trim so badly in my life scalloped ruffle one piece I lost my favorite Eberjay white cover up a year ago (RIP style here) Now this is not quiet the same style, but I love the Vneck and lace detail, it also comes in other bright colors in case you’re not feeling the Lily vibes. Corded Trim Short Tunic
You will not find me in any basic brown sandals this summer Abbie Sandal
Ahhh spring time! It’s slowly warming up, the flowers are begining to bloom and your refrigerator is now plastered with about 20 wedding save the dates and a matching bridal shower to go with them! What to wear to a wedding can be tricky but what to wear to a Bridal shower can be just as confusing or just a struggle to find something to wear. If you’re currently in that state of mind see below for some of my favorite options. Links at the very bottom.
This dress also comes in a pretty berry color, but you get more credit for the shadow stripe in the black. The smocked waist will help you feel slimmer (and allow you to participate if there is a buffet). Francesca Tiered Midi, Anthropologie
The print of this Harbor V neck wrap dress from Viva Aviva does it all. I love the idea of something other than just florals for a print. Harbor V neck Mini Dress, Viva Aviva
I love the mixed prints and multi tiers of this Jodie Maxi Dress from Dolan. The long sleeves make it easy to wear for an early spring shower, plus it’s perfect dressed up but you can also tone it down to wear again. Jodie Maxi Dress, Dolan Collection
I used to try to stay away from white grounded prints for weddings, but as long as there is a busy print, you will not compete against the bride Nikita Dress, Reformation
This past weekend my best girlfriends and I all met up in Savannah, Georgia to celebrate on of our dearests Bachelorette party. This southern city did not disappoint! From peddle pubs to ghost tours we had a blast! Brunch was delicious, and I’m not sure how Ill ever be able to do bottomless without also taking a mimosa to go. Each rooftop bar had a better view than the next and the all over romance of the south has me ready to migrate down again soon. With such fun outdoor activities all weekend, I have to say, one of my favorite parts of the whole city is how it has maintained its historical southern charm throughout the times. I could have wandered those moss lined streets the whole weekend, as each house was prettier than the next. The only thing getting me over being back north is the thought of getting to head to Charleston in the next couple weeks!
My favorite of all the homes we saw. I love the turquoise shutters and mahogany door against the stark white stucco.
Brunch at The Broughton Commons could not have been more unique and delicious! Pro tip if you go, get the waffles and duck.
ToGoSa, aka a to go mimosa from The Broughton Commons. Another great perk of the city is their open container policy. Wine to go please!
Each house (mansion) was prettier than the next
Trying to figure out how I transplant these Southern Live Oaks to the North East, with the Spanish Moss included.
I could post up on Forsyth Park all day people watching and taking in the sunshine. It truly was beautiful.
The Forsyth Park Fountain did not have the best lighting but it was fun to see the water festive for St. Patrick’s day (St. Practice Day weekend)
Again, sorry for all the home pics, I could just not get enough of them!
With the upcoming rendition of Jane Austen’s Emma, lately I have been day dreaming about period costumes. What is it about these dresses and gowns that sing spring? From Sophia Coppola’s Marie Antoinette to Pride and Prejudice, all are splashed with the most feminine fabrications in pale shades of yellow, blush and cream. Delicate embroidery, ruffles and bows, all make living in the 18th and 19th centuries seem so dreamy. See below for my picks of the most romantic dresses for spring in the 21st Century.
